   Experiential learning programme (ELP)

 

Experiential learning is one of the components of student READY programme with business curriculum-related endeavor. It aims at developing a cadre of skilled professionals who can create their own enterprises. Therefore, the course design of experiential learning is aimed at competence development through knowledge in all aspects of enterprise management so that the agriculture graduates can have complete understanding of field problems, project development and execution oftheir enterprise.

Experiential Learning (EL) helps the student to develop competence and capability, capacity building, acquiring skills, expertise and confidence to start their own enterprise and turn into “Job Creators instead of Job Seekers”. It provides the students an excellent opportunity to develop analytical and entrepreneurial skills, knowledge through meaningful hands-on experience and confidence in their ability to design and execute the project work. The programme has carefully calibrated activities which help the students to explore and discover their own potential. Experiential learning programme (ELP) is a focused part in the Under Graduate course curriculum of the ANGRAU University keeping parity with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) formulated UG syllabus having a set objective of –

“Earn While You Learn”. Experiential denotes interactive involvement based personally determined experience that would turn into innovation finally leading to the development of an entrepreneur resulting the generation of job provider rather than job seeker.

During 2019, two Experiential Learning Programme units started their operation at SBVR Agricultural College, Badvel in different establishments namely ‘EL Retro Unit’and ‘Snow white Mushroom Unit’. Keeping the student strength in view anddifferent facilities availing at college three units were started namely ‘NutriPlus ELUnit’, ‘EL Retro Unit’ and ‘Snow white Mushroom Unit’ are being continued in this college from 2020 onwards.

I.  NUTRI PLUS ELP UNIT


NutriPlus EL unit

Under this programme, the Department of Agronomy has established a Nutri Plus Unit, where students actively participate in the cultivation of various crops. After harvesting, students are involved in value addition of the produce, learning essential post-harvest techniques such as processing, packaging, and marketing.  

Nutriplus ELP unit module mainly emphasize on acquiring the practical hands on experience of seed production of field crops, processing and value addition of the selected crop by the students.

 

 

 II.  ORGANIC ELUNIT

Organic farming ELP unit was Started in May, 2024 at SBVR Agricultural College, Badvel. Under the guidance of G. Chandra Sekhar Rao Sir, Associate Dean to promote the Organic and Natural Preparations for the Students. 
Natural farming and organic farming are sustainable agricultural practices that focus on cultivating crops without synthetic chemicals, promoting ecological balance, and enhancing soil fertility.
 

 

III.  SNOW WHITE MUSHROOM UNIT

 
Snow White Mushroom EL unit was established during first semester, 2019-20 with final year students of SBVR agricultural College in Badvel. A total of 230kg of oyster mushrooms were produced and each one kilogram of mushrooms were sold at Rs. 250/-. The returns received were Rs. 57,500/- and Rs. 7,187/-profit was generated with 1.45 BC ratio. 

* Hands-on Training: Students receive practical exposure to mushroom cultivation techniques, including spawn preparation, substrate sterilization, and harvesting.

* Focus on Oyster & Milky Mushrooms*: Emphasis is given to cultivating economically viable varieties such as oyster and milky mushrooms under controlled conditions.

* Skill Development : The program enhances entrepreneurial and technical skills in mushroom production, post-harvest management, and marketing strategies.

* Understanding of Cultivation Environment*: Students learn how to maintain suitable conditions like temperature, humidity, and cleanliness for healthy mushroom growth.

* Income-Oriented Learning: Students learn cost-effective production methods aimed at generating income, promoting agri-business ideas, and encouraging rural self-employment.


IV.  RETRO ELUNIT

 

SBVR Agricultural college, Badvel was started in 2016 with ANGRAU affiliation and Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) was first started in 2024-25 for 2022 admitted batch. During 2024-25 B.Sc. Ag Final year total students (2022) was divided into 2 batches. In second batch 5 students were allotted to the ELP value addition unit, Department of Horticulture and 25 value added products were produced with Rupees: 11,610/- cost of production and net profit was Rs:10,435/- was generated with 1.89 B:C ratio.

Watermelon RTS – Hydrating drink

•Millet Laddu(Ragi) – it is rich in calcium, iron and other important essential minerals & nutrients which helps in building up of bone density
•GoundKatirajuice – it relive heat stroke, and have natural cooling effect and prevents dehydration
•Bread pudding – helps in supporting muscle repair & brain health
•Curry leaf powder – it promotes healthy hair growth and it controls blood sugar levels and acts as anti bacterial & anti fungal
 
•Moringapowder – it reduces cholesterol and cures anemia, cancer and anti-tumorproperties. It helps to keep diabetes in check
