The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. On September 24, 1969, the Union Education Minister Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao, launched the NSS programme in 37 universities overing all States and simultaneously requested the Chief Ministers of States for their cooperation and help. The cardinal principle of the programme is that it is organized by the students themselves and both students and teachers through their combined participation in social service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of national development. Besides, the students also obtain work experience which might help them to find avenues of self-employment or employment in any organization.
The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
1. Understand the community in which they work
2. Understand themselves in relation to their community
3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in
problem-solving
4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
5. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and
community problems
6. Develop competence required for group. Living and sharing of responsibilities
7. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation
8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies, natural disasters and practice national
integration and social harmony
SBVR Agricultural College has two NSS units with 100 volunteers each. These two units are financially supported by Yogivemana University, Kadapa from the academic year 2021-2022.
Unit - 1 Programme officer (PO), Mr. D. Prasanna Kumar and Unit – 2 PO’s Dr. Pandit Praveen Kumar. The activities and programmes of NSS units of SBVR Agricultural College aim towards overall holistic development of its stakeholders. The social activities carried out by NSS. are divided in two groups i.e., Regular activities and RAWEP Special Camp activities.
