Agril. Engineering Profile


 The Department of Agricultural Engineering was established in the year 2017 as one of the five major academic divisions of SBVR Agricultural College, located at Badvel, YSR Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh. The college is affiliated to Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University and holds ICAR accreditation (2023).

Agricultural engineering plays a supportive and interdisciplinary role in BSc Agriculture. Focuses on making Indian agriculture a more sustainable, profitable, and competitive enterprise through engineering interventions of farm mechanization, value addition, and energy management in production and post-harvest operations. The department is committed to developing and introducing need-based and sector-specific engineering technologies for achieving sustainable enhancement in the productivity and profitability of various farming systems.

 Academic Focus and Student Involvement

The Department of Agricultural Engineering provides the application of engineering principles in farming and resource management. It’s not as in-depth as a B. Tech in Agricultural Engineering, but it provides a solid foundation, including:

Farm Machinery & Power

  • Types and operation of tractors, tillers, seeders, and harvesters
  • Mechanization and energy efficiency in agriculture

Soil and Water Conservation Engineering

  • Contour bunding, terracing, check dams
  • Watershed management techniques

Post-Harvest Technology

  • Grain storage, drying systems, and value addition
  • Engineering aspects of food processing

Renewable Energy in Agriculture

  • Solar dryers, biogas plants, wind pumps
  • Energy audits and sustainable energy use on farms

Students actively participate in individual and group assignments, preparation of records, and development of charts and models. problem-solving based on tractor engine systems and sprinkler systems, etc., and learning by doing approaches.

The department has a well-established Laboratory.

Area of the laboratory: 1825 Square feet (73ft * 25ft)

Total seating capacity: 45

Facilities include:

  • Cut model of Primary tillage implement (MB, Disc plough)
  • Cut models of Secondary tillage implements (Harrows)
  • Cut model of CI & SI engine
  • Cut models of removable energy sources
  • Cut models of all types of polyhouses
  • Cut models of the biogas preparation
  • Cut model of the Seed treatment drum and cut model of the winnower, etc...

Over the past two years, with support from the Associate Dean and College Management, the department has continuously upgraded its laboratory with modern equipment to enhance teaching and research capabilities.
